FAQs
What is the mission of City Dogs Rescue?
City Dogs Rescue was formed for one reason: to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited. We want to offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, many of the dogs that CDR takes in are just days and sometimes hours away from being euthanized, for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives — both human and canine. We welcome help in any capacity — through volunteering, fostering, adopting, and/or donating.
When did City Dogs Rescue begin? How many dogs have been adopted?
City Dogs Rescue was formed as a DC nonprofit corporation in September 2011. Previously, City Dogs Daycare fostered dogs from 2005 to 2010 through Brandi Kattman, a former employee of City Dogs Daycare. She used the name City Dogs Rescue, but discontinued adopting out dogs in the DC area after she moved out of state. The new City Dogs Rescue has entirely new volunteers and organization, although the spirit of rescuing dogs using the daycare remains.
Since its formation as a nonprofit entity in September 2011, CDR has adopted more than 230 dogs to families.
How is City Dogs Rescue connected to City Dogs Daycare?
City Dogs Rescue is a nonprofit, separate corporation from City Dogs Daycare. The City Dogs Daycare is not an animal shelter. One of the owners of City Dogs Daycare is also one of the three Directors at City Dogs Rescue. City Dogs Daycare donates space to City Dogs Rescue to keep several (but not all of the) rescue dogs and also serves as a physical location for City Dogs Rescue administrative matters. Please do not contact City Dogs Daycare for City Dogs Rescue matters. Most City Dogs Rescue leaders and volunteers are best contacted through the avenues listed on this website.
How can I help?
CDR is always looking for additional volunteers to foster dogs, walk dogs, coordinate and help at adoption events, serve as adoption counselors, transport dogs from shelters, work on social media, and help with fundraising. The first step in the process is to sign up on the City Dogs Rescue e-mail list on the volunteer page. The e-mail list allows volunteers to indicate their areas of interest and then be informed when volunteers are needed. Volunteers will need to sign a volunteer release.
What’s iGive?
City Dogs Rescue participates in the iGive.com program, which is a simple way for CDR to raise critical funds and costs our supporters nothing. Over 900 online stores (e.g., Amazon.com, DSW.com, Gap.com, HomeDepot.com, Hotels.com, Expedia.com, Marriott.com, Petco.com) have pledged to donate a certain percentage of the online purchases from all of our registered supporters. Additionally, for each new member, we also receive a $10 bonus! PLEASE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO JOIN AND EXPLAIN THE 2-PART PROCESS BELOW:

- Go to the following link: http://www.iGive.com/CityDogsRescue (this link and instructions are on the back of CDR business cards). Once on the iGive website, the participant should click on the “Join Today” to register.
- The last (but very important) step is for the participant to follow the instructions to download the “iGive button” or “plug-in” on his/her Internet browser. If this last step is not done, CDR will not receive credit. A person will know that the button is downloaded correctly if they go to a site like www.gap.com and see a banner on the top of the page stating that the store donates ____% to City Dogs Rescue. Please email us with any questions.
