WELCOME!

City Dogs Rescue was formed to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters, where resources are severely limited. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, many of the dogs that City Dogs Rescue takes in are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives — both human and canine. We welcome your help in any capacity — through volunteering, fostering, adopting, sponsoring and/or donating.

City Dogs Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is not a "shelter." We are a network of volunteers (most will full-time jobs) who foster dogs with volunteer families and donated boarding facilities. Please remember that most of our dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers and therefore cannot be visited without an adoption application and appointment with the foster family. City Dogs Daycare serves as a foster home to some of the dogs, and can only show adoptable dogs with an appointment and completed adoption application as well. Please do not contact the daycare for City Dogs Rescue matters. Contact us only through the avenues listed on this website.

Dog Walking Program

To improve our popular dog walking program, we decided to implement some changes. First, to make it easier to reserve a dog walking spot, we are limiting the initial (restructured) program to a total of 25 trained dog walkers. Second, to ensure that we meet our insurance obligations, volunteers need to complete an online application and then attend an in-person training. If you are interested in applying for the program, please see the attached notice and complete the application to be considered when spaces become available.
