Gwennie was rescued in January 2016. She only made it out of the shelter alive thanks to a vet tech recognizing something special about her. The vet tech contacted Pam Nalley in South Carolina and asked her to find a rescue for Gwen. Thankfully we had space and brought Gwennie to DC. After arrival she went through several foster homes because she couldn't settle in. Her fosters determined there was something going on that was causing her pain and hence her grumpiness. Upon further evaluation, the specialists determined she had two torn ligaments in her legs and a dislocated (luxated) patella. This required extensive surgery and a long rehabilitation. The next challenge was to find a foster who could manage her care. The wonderful Pezzoli family stepped in and took Gwennie in. They managed her surgical appointments and aftercare and quickly fell in love with this special girl. After all they went through together, they knew they could not let her go and adopted her in July 2016. Gwennie has an amazing life with the Pezzoli's on the Eastern Shore and trips to the beach in South Carolina. A few months ago Gwennie was diagnosed with lymphoma. The Pezzoli's were once again faced with a challeging medical condition. Gwennie is now in treatment and receiving the best care. She is loved dearly and enjoys her life daily. Who could have guessed this bully mix girl from rural South Carolina would have found such an amazing life? Gwennie tells her story below.
Cast your daily vote for Gwennie so we can continue to provide the best care for other discarded cats and dogs. Thank you.

![]() A rainy morning couldn't keep families away from the Dog Days of Summer event at the Postal Museum last weekend, July 29! CDR was there with plenty of adoptable dogs looking for their fur-ever families. Here's some of the great pups we brought out! Gypsy is a terrier mix looking for her person or family. She'll spoil you with unconditional love and soak up all your affection. To learn more about her and apply to meet her, visit her page at: goo.gl/gwN65q ![]() Loretta heard that you might be looking for a gentle, silly, and loving companion to accompany you to the office, on your errands and out and about town, and she's happy to let you know that she's your gal! She's a 2 year old coonhound who has loved everyone (and every dog) she's met. She's up for hikes, visits to the neighbors, a picnic in the park, or snuggles and Netflix on the sofa, all provided she doesn't have to leave your side. She's a love bug who has some separation anxiety whenever she's been left alone, so she's looking for a family with someone who sticks around home during the day. She's not well suited to a condo or apartment because she can't quite leave her hound howls behind, but her foster says she's a great vocalist! ![]() She'd love a yard, though it is not mandatory for adoption, since she loves sunbathing and never misses out on playing chase with herself and her toys when she has the space. She'll spend her nights happily snoozing on her dog bed, but she's happy to be your alarm clock if you let her. She loves a quick snuggle and roll around in clean sheets before you take her on her morning walk. She'd love to have another pup in the home, but would be perfectly happy to have all the belly rubs to herself. ![]() Milo is a lovable Bulldog mix who is looking for his forever home after falling on hard times with his past owner, who lost his home. Each night Milo happily sleeps beside his foster in bed. When his foster is getting ready for work Milo will still be found under the covers, his eyes barely open! However, at the first sound of his breakfast being prepared Milo jumps out of bed to eat! If you're not a morning person, Milo is the dog for you!
