"...I really appreciate what you're doing for my shelter. I came in today to do my monthly report early while I could be left alone to do it. When I got to the euthanasia log sheets for the dogs I couldn't find any! That's because we didn't euthanize any dogs and I just didn't realize it. That really stunned me as that has never happened in 27 years. Thanks to your rescue and all the others." B. Turman, Chief Animal Control Officer, Smyth County, Nov. 24, 2013

City Dogs Rescue was formed to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters, where resources are severely limited. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, many of the dogs that City Dogs Rescue takes in are just days — and sometimes hours — away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives — both human and canine. We welcome your help in any capacity — through volunteering, fostering, adopting, sponsoring and/or donating.
City Dogs Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is not a "shelter." We are a network of volunteers (most will full-time jobs) who foster dogs with volunteer families and donated boarding facilities. Please remember that most of our dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers and therefore cannot be visited without an adoption application and appointment with the foster family. City Dogs Daycare serves as a foster home to some of the dogs, and can only show adoptable dogs with an appointment and completed adoption application as well. Please do not contact the daycare for City Dogs Rescue matters. Contact us only through the avenues listed on this website.
