Celebrate 15 years of City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue with a donation to help us save pets in need!
In September 2011, a 1-year-old black lab was stuck in a rural Georgia shelter. He had less than 24 hours before he was set to be euthanized. When the organizers of City Dogs Rescue heard about his story, they knew they had to do something. After hours of phone calls, pleas to Facebook to help secure the funds, and messages to supporters begging for a foster, at the 11th hour, Bentley the black lab was rescued and on his way to Washington, DC. Shortly after his rescue, he met Melissa on a walk around Dupont Circle. It was love at first sight, and from this first success story, City Dogs Rescue was born!
City Dogs Rescue started with a goal to save 6-8 dogs a month and quickly grew, saving over 1,800 dogs from 2011 to 2015. In late 2015, a passionate board member realized how much good the rescue could do for cats in similar situations, and the organization evolved into the City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue we know so well today.
Since that first serendipitous day in 2011, City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue has saved over 13,000 pets in need, growing into one of the largest animal rescues in Washington, DC, with over 500 active volunteers, 5 employees, and 800+ lives saved a year. Now, we are celebrating 15 years of second chances and saving lives!
