Fostering a Cat

As we bring cats into D.C., we need fosters to commit to providing them with loving homes while they search for their forever families. By fostering a cat, you are enabling City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue to pull an animal from a high-kill shelter. All cats need is a soft place to nap, food and water, and maybe even a catnip toy! Would you consider being a temporary resting place for these sweet cats?

As a foster parent, you provide a home, food, bed and TLC. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue pays for all pre-approved vet care and provides you with a collar and other supplies, if needed, when you foster a cat. Your foster cat provides purrs, playfulness, and naps! Please note that we are currently requesting that all cat fosters be willing to keep their cats until adoption. If you have travel plans, let us know and we can make appropriate arrangements.

Important information to know before applying:
  • Kittens under 12 weeks of age need to be fostered in pairs or into a home with another friendly feline. Kittens older than 12 weeks may also be required to have a feline friend at CDCK's discretion.
  • We apologize but at this time we do NOT allow traditional undergraduate students to foster.
  • At this time we only allow fosters to adopt under specific circumstances. If you think you may want to adopt a cat, please see our Adoptable Cats.
All of the cats listed on this page need foster homes.  They are eligible for adoption at any time.
If you are looking for a resource to rehome your pet and you did not adopt them from City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue, visit   rehome.adoptapet.com to learn more and create their profile.
*If you need to return your CDCK cat or dog, please contact info@citydogsrescuedc.org.
